Unfortuinaltly the marks are from large dirt particles entering the engine when it was probably out of the car.
So many people underestimate the small amount of airbourne particles at a race meet...

Any form of electric racing is like watching paint dry. Its not as much of a spectator sport as anyone can't hear the input the driver is giving the car.
