In practical terms I think they are the same thing, but not sure what the material difference is. I thought MG = metal gear and SG = steel gear, which is basically the same thing. You'll notice that the 1268SG has high voltage etched on to side of the case and the 1268MG doesn't, so it might be a marketing update.

LA Parts House say "Tech Note: MG/SG Stands for Steal/Metal Gears, some case are marked with SG some are marked with MG both are the same servo"

    If you look at
    http://www.savoxtech.com.tw/ or
    http://www.savoxusa.com/Savox_SC1268...avsc1268sg.htm
both only list a 1268SG although the picture on savox usa shows 1268MG on the case.

If you look at page 22 - Accessories - Gear Sets the SG servos gear sets are listed in the Unique Steel range. The MG gear sets are listed in 'Metal & Plastic' range which may indicate that it may have a comibation of metal and plastic gears. It may still just have 'metal' gears....but they may not be as durable or robust as their unique steel ones. The 1268MG also does not appear to be listed so maybe it's been superceded/discontinued.... If you look at what servos they recommend for off road....they only recommend some SG and TG servos....
