" What are you comparing that with then " any rc car without tx /rx that costs over a grand in my eyes is overpriced including the hpi . I owned a baja 5b ss which was £700 and i knew someone that brought a chienese copy for 350 quid that was identical just shows how much money these companys make.
didnt seem to be there were even speculation that they were made in the same factory .the copy didnt break any easyer or have a lower build quality and all hpi parts fitted
Just because all HPI parts fitted, doesnt mean they were made from the same materials
true but they could of been..

Big companies charge such prices because they have got to do so.
Think of the research, development, testing, marketing e.t.c. that goes into the project. Then the fact it's gotta support such a huge company, it only makes sense that they charge that much.
It's the same with most big branded goods.
A copy is cheaper because they are simply cloned, produced on the cheap as quickly as possible and then there you go, they've made their cash.
Remember too you're supporting the real rc industry and they look after you in return.
copies are also cheaper as they dont have the R&D costs of the company who designed it had. so they can afford to make them and sell them cheaper to be fair.
although its interesting that these 'big' companies keep charging big money for something they must of made there money from, and got there R&D cost back from selling it....but dont seem to drop the price...they will sell more if they did...either that or they still charge sky high prices because they havnt made there money back from it yet...and that isnt a good thing on there behalf surely??
i still say, IMHO, there both overpriced. Your paying a premuim for the brand, not the actual cost or fair price for the product...its the same for most things r/c though, not just the Baja or the new Losi 1/5th...

Monster GT, my first nitro!!
Spektrum, Ace, Futaba 3pks, Savox, RB C5, RBS7,
Wow! that is expensive :O
I think it's cheap in comparison when you compare it to the likes of Hormann, MCD and Hurrax.
An MCD RR V4 comp will set you back close to £900 for just a roller, a Hormann around £800+ for a roller and Hurrax around £1,000 for a roller.
This is also a lot of car for the cash:
Next to an MCD V4

The way I see it is, it's something HPI should have done for a long time but they never cottoned onto it, instead they just re-brand the 5b and stick a truck shell on and call it a 5T*, or stick some bigger wheels on it and a lower slung shell with a couple of uprated parts and call it the SC*.
Losi have taken what they know and brought something fresh to the 5th scale market which is what the hobby needs every now and then.
*I know there are other parts I just couldn't be bothered to list them
Wow what a whopper, That is BIG, i'm just checking down the back of my sofa for a grand.
I thought the price was about spot on when you compare to what the average racer spends on a model to get it ready to race, engine, servos, radio and tyres etc etc.
