Another question for this thread which I think would be useful:

The longer the manifold - better top end???
The shorter the manifold - better low end???
The longer the pipe - better low end???
The shorter the pipe - better top end???

Please correct everything that is wrong as I am not sure which way round it all is.

    Long manifold helps "bottom end"
    Short helps "top end"

    Short pipe = top end
    Long pipe = bottom end

However, the shape of a pipe is also a factor

How does the shape of a pipe effect performance?

It provides the level of "back pressure" needed for a two stroke engine to give good beanz.

The same reason a two stroke motorbike exhaust has Expansion chambers, for power. A boring stroker wont have them as they're meant to potter around town, but a sports 125/250 etc will have an exhaust with skinny bits and fat bits (the so called expansion chamber) to provide smooth gas flow and the right amount of back pressure.

I'm babbling now, Someone on here is likely to know more about this than I, especially regarding RC 'zorsts. hope to have been of a little help though

The purpose of expansion chambers is to tune the pressure wave (this is not pressure but a wavefront) that is caused by the exhaust port opening after combustion, basically the expansion chamber reflects the wavefront back towards the port at a specifc timed point, based on the expansion chamber shape.
The purpose of redirecting the wavefront back to exhaust port is to aide in stopping fresh fuel mixture being drawn out of the exhaust port before the piston gets chance to block the port off, the timing of the wavefront hitting this point is critical to where the engine makes its power, ie you will find that certain pipes exhibit better bottom/mid rev range power gain, another pipe will exhibit a less power full bottom end, no change in the mid range but a better performance higher up the rev range.

Is the Novarossi 2096 pipe the same as RB 2097?
