    Default BRCA Truggy National Round 3

    BRCA Truggy National Round 3
    Deerdale Off Road
    Day 2

    The day started off damp but by the end of the first round the track was totally dry. Ed Kerry knew what he needed to do if he wanted to take TQ from day one leader Matthew Lewis.

    1st round of the day (Round 6) went to Ed with Matthew having problems causing him to have a late start. Second in the round was Darren Hayden-Ball who needed a good result to move him up the leader board. Third was Michael Lewis who was now consistently finishing in the top three. This left Ed and Matthew tied for TQ with Ed leading it on count back. All was set for the last round, after all these rounds of qualifying it was down to one round.

    The final round of qualifying got underway and notably in Heat 3 Steve Bond had finally regained his form he had yesterday morning. Once again Matthew had problems at the start of qualifying which meant that Ed had a clear run to take the final round and therefore claim TQ. Michael Lewis claimed another second place and Michael Lee took third.

    Ed Kerry had taken the extra point for TQ which meant in order to match Matthews score in the championship he needed to win the A Final.

    The finals got started, with all the finals being 35 mins in duration it would not only be a race of speed, it would also be a test of consistency and reliability.

    In the first final (D), Chris Jeffrey led from the start, Gareth Devey took second after an early battle with Daniel Geeson who retired after 15 laps. Third was Mandy Scott and the last bump up place was taken by young Adam Hall.

    Next came the C Final. Pole sitter John (Stot) Geaves stalled on the grid and had to start from the pit lane which gave the early lead to Paul Haddock. After a couple of laps he was relieved of the lead by James Tatlow who kept until the end of the race. Second pace was John (Stot) Geaves who made a storming recovery from his stall. Third was eventually taken by Mark Bailey demoting early leader Paul Haddock to the last bump up slot.

    Next up was the B Final which had quite a lot of talented drivers in competition for the last 4 places in the A final. Pole man Steve (not so big now) Bad Bond was first to have problems as he was caught in the 1st corner mayhem normally associated with the lower finals. Dave Griffiths came out on top and held this lead for the first 10 laps. Second place swapped between a chasing pack but by halfway through the race Josh Powney had made the place his own. Dave Griffiths dropped down and Steve Bond took over the helm and looked like leading the race comfortably until he had an engine cut 3 laps from the end. Such was his lead he only dropped to 4th place giving him the final bump up. 1st place was once again up for grabs and Piers Pearson took the lead near the end leaving Josh Powney in second and Nathan Powney in third.

    The A Final

    The rostrum was full of drivers all very capable of leading a race but who would lead the last lap we would have to wait 35 mins to find out.

    The 1st corner proved to be difficult to get 14 cars through in one go and this meant that although there were no bad incidents some cars tripped over each other and some got away. 1st time through the loop the top 5 were Michael Lewis, Ed Kerry, Matthew Lewis, Luke Lee and Joe Joyce. First to fall was Michael Lewis between lap 2 and 3. This left championship challengers Ed and Matthew in first and second respectively. Holding a good pace in 3rd was young Luke Lee who shortly afterwards suffered and electrical problem which put him out of contention for the podium places. Taking up the position of best of the rest was Joe who was being challenged for this spot by Darren Hayden-Ball. Ed had started to show his ultimate pace on the astro of the Deerdale track and slowly pulled away from Matthew who had a clear gap to the 3rd placed man Joe. Darren Hayden-Ball had been battling with Michael Lewis until Michael dropped out but he was to be given no rest as he was later challenged by Michael Lee who was interested in relieving him of his 4th place. Michael and Darren continued to swap places for the last 10 laps until the last lap when a small mistake cost Michael the 4th place he was holding leaving him no time to regain it from Darren.

    Whilst all this was going on Joe Joyce was trying to catch Matthew for second place but Matthew prove too quick and Joe had to settle for 3rd. Despite Matthew’s very quick lap times he was unable to match the relentless pace of the leader Ed Kerry who had consistently shown ultra fast times around the challenging Deerdale circuit.

    This has left the championship tied and the final decision on the winner will be made by the BRCA Exec. Committee. Third in the championship was Joe Joyce, fourth went to Stan Gill and fifth to Piers Pearson. The top junior (sponsored by Podium RC) under 16 trophy was won by Josh Powney and the under 13 was won by Oliver Bowen.

    As the Secretary of the section i would like to take this oppurtunity in giving a big thankyou ;

    To all the clubs involved to make this series happen all the hard work and dedication from the committee of the BRCA Truck & Truggy Section;

    To all the drivers that have supported the series as without you the drivers the series would be nothing,the hospitality,socializing,and great overall crack at all the meetings is has been outstanding through the series .Drivers etiquette has been 100% through the series with some very close racing through out;

    I would also like to thank the following people;

    Dave Griffiths Podium RC for all the help, kicking my ar** when needed and keeping me going and the car through the series;

    Lisa Beddow Podium RC for all the pitting Lisa has done for me and generally being there for me through the series when things get bad Lisa has been a true inspiration to all of the Motley Crew from Podium RC this series and made sure we are all fed and watered and well looked after;

    Also thankyou to Stan the man for pitting for Dave Griffiths on Sunday at Deerrdale as though i was bumped up and meant i could not pit for Dave so thankyou Stan;

    All what is left to say is Roll on next year

    So who is the actual BRCA truggy champ then? Surley there's rules for a tie, most race wins, most TQ's etc? Or could these not have had a race off to decide things?

    Just seems crazy to end the series and not actual know who's won
