Truggy Nationals Round 1 and 2

Team Losi dominate the UK Truggy Nationals

The 2008 UK Truggy Pro series kicked off in style with two race meetings, back to back over the May bank holiday weekend at the excellent Herts Nitro Model Club. With most of the UK’s top off road nitro drivers in attendance, including defending champion Jon Hazlewood now driving a Losi 8ight-T. The racing at the top end couldn’t have been much more competitive.

Round 1 – Sunday 4th May 2008

Team Losi totally dominated the first day of racing with Darren Bloomfield taking TQ and going on to win the 30 minute A final. Coming in a just behind Darren and also driving Losi 8ight-T’s were the 2007 champion Jon Hazlewood and Simon Willets who picked up third place.
Sam Talyor picked up a very respectable fourth place with his Mugen MBX5-T and Jamie Booth claimed fifth driving the new Hong Nor X2 CRT.

Round 2 – Monday 5th May 2008

The Herts track offers a distinct advantage of being modular so with a completely new and slightly more technical track layout for the second day, the task of qualifying started all over again. Darren Bloomfield stayed on form to take TQ again but Kyosho Team Drivers, Mike Craddock and Tommy Chung put in an excellent drive to place their ST-RR truggy’s second and third on the grid for the start of the A final.
The 30 minute A final was a very close fought battle, Darren took an early lead but had Mike, Tommy and Jon Hazlewood breathing right down his neck. Tommy took the lead from Darren and was ripping with the ST-RR. Hazlewood played a blinder with his fuel stop strategies and just managed to take the lead from Tommy but the two were very close after Darren ran out of fuel on his entrance into the pits. By the end of the race Darren had worked his way back up to first with Tommy taking a very well deserved second and Jon Hazlewood picking up third place.

Massive Thanks

Having had two very enjoyable days racing at the Herts Nitro Model Club, a massive thanks needs to go out to the guys at the club for prepping the track and providing such awesome facilities. With the whole track rotovated and rolled the week before, it provided an awesome venue for the start of the 2008 UK Truggy Pro series. Well done to the BRCA Truggy Chairman, Neil McRae for yet again almost single handedly organising the Truggy Nationals and a big thanks to all the competitors for making the journey to the track and contributing to such a good weekend’s racing.
We’ll have over 2,000 action pictures and some video footage from the A final on both days up very soon so please check back
