Overview
The Losi 8ight-T brought something extra into the mix when it arrived on the market; a slimmer chassis design that has the engine mounted more centrally than any other competitor through having its rear diff output offset, yet the chassis is still a quality 4mm thick and made from bronzy coloured 7075-T6 aircraft grade aluminium. Balance is the key with the Losi as even the battery and receiver find themselves in separate boxes, the battery at the rear and the receiver at the front, sandwiching the servos. The front and rear diffs are completely sealed inside their casings to ease maintenance whilst aiding performance, and the centre diff has a protective shroud to keep little stones away. The brake discs are staggered in size to give a better braking feel to the truck and the drive train is passed on with CVDs all round. Losi shocks are some of the best in the world and the 8ight-T is blessed with a set of big bores with titanium nitride shafts and a pair of 5mm thick shock towers to perch on. The steering matches the rest of the truck in sheer brilliance, making it one of the best turners in the business.nobby's view
It’s set up to race straight out of the box and seems to suit my driving style to a tee. It may take a bit of getting used to for some, with the rear end push it has on cornering, but once a progressive throttle is mastered, it is a screamer! It jumps like a Gazelle running free in the African plains yet is otherwise very much like the Xray in its prowess on the track; fast, aggressive and nimble. The precision of handling is only surpassed by the Hobao yet the Losi steals away for me with its innovative design and those beautiful shocks that work overtime to keep it so stable and balanced in more or less everything that it does. It looks sleek and fast even when it’s standing still and has proved it is a highly desirable top level kit to have because it’s packed with ability. The shell is tough and very protective too, unlike the Xray lid which is paper thin and flimsy. My personal favourite of all of them due to the pleasure I get from driving it.marcus' view
The 8T is a very competent racer straight out of the box. It comes pre-built from the factory as a “race roller” which will be a nice bonus for someone new to the market but will be of no benefit to the seasoned racer who will immediately strip it down and rebuild it. The standard set-up is very competitive and fast giving an excellent balance between speed and control, although its inclination to over-steer will bite you on the arse if you are too heavy on the throttle. With excellent steering both on and off-power and an ability to jump in a very neutral and controlled manner, to which only the Xray can come close, the 8T is my favourite of the current crop of truggies on the market. Factor in that the 8T is very competitively priced with excellent spares back-up and an already enviable reputation for strength and reliability, and you’ve got the winning package.Gung Ho Pro says
Very good pick up, especially considering it was powered by a Go 21 and not some super expensive engine like the others. Jumped very well and seemed to go further than all the others with only the XT8 offering anywhere near a comparison. Steering is again very good although still not as good as the Hyper. Does tend to turn in when you lift off power and was the only kit that felt like it wanted to push out on the corners which could make it a bit of a handful to less experienced drivers - still, it was the only kit I wanted to drive twice!
