The knuckles and uprights are now CNC machined for strength and beauty with locking nuts to secure their pins in place The aluminium bodied long throw shocks are suited and booted to perform The taller shock towers have an abundance of setup options to be tried, whilst the mighty rear bumper offers a high level of protection

The knuckles are CNC’d aluminium all round which is another improvement and the rear uprights have some mounting holes pre-drilled for optional mud scrapers. They all take their place on the super thick braced and ultra-long A-arms that find themselves lacking in captured hinge pins. Yes, whilst the rear 7mm thick aluminium suspension plate is lovely and there’s a 1.5 degree anti-squat angle for better acceleration and the front has a thick ally zero degree front suspension mount, they hold their pins with stone age E-clips. You do get some nice thick anti-roll bars front and rear to help with aggressive cornering and the steering has a good adjustable bellcrank with a two hole option Ackerman plate, but it’s yet to be seen if it can cut the mustard on the track with the modern truggy kings.

The suspension looks pretty sorted, taller shock towers with an array of mounting options for both the long throw ally shock absorbers and three holes for the camber link mounts. If there’s one thing we learned from the older LSP, it was that the shocks were really very good.

The kit is finished off with a pair of tough nylon bumpers and a set of HB cross-lug mini pin racing tyres on yellow dished rims, although they aren’t glued on and in my opinion a set of white wheels would have looked so much better to match with the white wing and suspension springs, but when it comes to these things I am just a fussy old tart!

still work to do

As a pro kit, it needs a few bits doing to it before track time is an option, it won’t go far without an engine and some radio gear will it? I had a Hitec 945MG who volunteered for the steering duties while a 625MG put its hand up for the throttle and brakes, so they soon found themselves a place in the carbon fibre radio tray. And as ever these days it had to be a job for a Spektrum receiver and my trusty KO Helios transmitter to control the movements. The huge radio box that has more than enough room for a five cell AA rechargeable pack, so much so that the receiver section had to padded out to stop the little Spektrum unit being tossed about inside.

Economical Power – Werks 3 Port

The chosen powerhouse was to be a new Werks Racing TL21B3 Pro, this is a long stroke three port engine that provides a blend of strong torque and aggressive top end speeds though its fluted crankshaft and teardrop transfer ports, topped off with the Werks signature black cooling head. It’s lucky enough to have a chunky purple ally flywheel, three shoe composite clutch and a bearing clad clutch bell to work with as they’re supplied with the kit, and you get an exhaust pipe too but I wanted to pair the Werks engine to my JP-3 racing pipe as I think they’ll make a lovely partnership.

The last remaining chore before I’m ready to start breaking it in was to slap the rear wing on and clothe it in its skin. You get a lovely sticker skin that covers the entire wing, even the inside edges of it are fortunate enough to be included. And then the body shell was delivered back from Airhead Graphics in a stunning white/red/black creation that far outshines the design on the box, with the addition of a few well placed stickers we’re ready to rock and roll!

The servos are installed and on show, but the battery and Spektrum are locked away in the spacious receiver box The Werks 3 port gives plenty of bang for your buck
