Round 4 At Nene Valley Raceway

Round 4 it is and the Nene has built us a brand new track for us to use and test ready for their 5th scale Euro's on the 21st-28th July

I got there Friday as normal so I can set all my gear up and tested. There was 6 of us trying to hold my awning down while I got pegs in it, the wind was that bad Friday. Got everything pegged down and set up for Tracey to sort the bed out and kitchen. I went over to have a look at the facilities to see where I would be needing to put my monitors. I needn't worry as I found out that the Nene have monitor points everywhere. It has got great facilities there, electric around the site for everyone's vans, fresh water, toilets and even a party tent complete with lights and lazers.
Saturday morning and everyone was turning up and the pitting area soon started to fill. We was all waiting in anticipation to be the first on a brand new track to see what it felt like. 10 oclock came and I think Dave was the first person to get on there. We ran the full track but in reverse. The track worked well in reverse if I was honest, I think that it could be the way to go there or even swap it over every now and again.

Saturday night and it was PARTY time! We had a bit of a wait for the Chinese meal that we ordered, but the order was £330 worth lol. After we had had eaten all of that food it was time for Birthday Boy Mark Thorniwill to get his Birthday cake out for us all for desert, that was lovely happy birthday Mate. It was time for a cuppa and a walk over to the party tent, it was rocking even though it was still light. The fire bin was lit and everyone was gathering around and people was saying that I was having make up on and my nails doing for charity as they had collected enough money for us to do it. There was supposed to have been Dave Brown, Andy Ash and Me doing it, but everyone was jumping in and having a go at it, I think it was their feminine sides coming out!! Mandy got stuck on the flag pole by her jeans and Tracey had to help her off of the hook that holds the flag up. They was all taping people up with gaffa tape and playing around with each other and having fun. I never seen anything of Tracey as she was in her element, dancing with the girls and Ray.

Sunday morning and I couldn't sleep so I got up and changed the shocks on my buggy and get ready for the day. I got out of my awning to see some hungover and tired faces lol. Everyone had enjoyed themselves last night. It was time to greet everyone and get all of the monitors out for the pits and drivers to have a look on mates times.

Drivers briefing and I had to put the law out on driver and pit lane etiquette, as the last round found people lapsing in etiquette, so no £**&ing swearing! lol. Told all the drivers that there is no jumping out of pit land and all four wheels need to touch the down ramp and I will be giving 10 second penalties out. I old needed to give a few reminders on the first couple of heats and everyone got it.

The heats where running and we had no problems except for the usual in the lower heats, marshals watching their mates going around! You are going to have to realise that you need to watch your area and your area only. If your mates say did you watch me do so and so jump then tell them no as you was watching your marshal area! Right my grumble over with and we are on for a great time. The track was sandy with it being brand new and it was a time for Schumacher mini spikes so that we had a bit of bite. The first round was over.

    The Finals
The Finals are now underway and everything is going smoothly No major pile ups in the first corner from the lower heats, but it was fun watching them in the second corner lol Just as it started we had rain coming down. Half way through it started to get heavy and out on the track their was some fetching head gear, Johnny Roberts had started off the wearing of the chairs! lol. It was really heavy and I saw that Mandy was flying through the field. From 9th place up to 4th. Everyone was out on either mini pins or mini spikes, I wanted to know why everyone was spinning out and Mandy wasn't. I was telling look at Mandy's throttle control. She must be very delicate with it! Not I was watching her with rooster tails coming off of her tyres and I then asked "What tyres are you on Mand??" Mandy said "Spirals!" "No wonder you are flying through the field!" Mandy missed out on a bump up by 5 seconds. If the rain would have stayed for a couple of minutes she would have done it.

I had to hand the trophies out in a Mankini as we was having a weekend collecting for charity Macmillan (www.macmillan.org.uk)

    Summary
We had a fantastic weekend at a fantastic new 1/8th scale venue for the Midlands. The weather was very kind to us seeing we have had more weather records broken this year from a hot dry winter and drought warnings all over the country, and all the top environmentalists saying it will take ten years or so to fill the dams and aquifers . How wrong was they. Its been the wettest summer since records began.
We had a problem with the loops that was in race control with the first and second heats. It was missing 6 buggies their laps out of 26 buggies, so I had to get my emergency loop out and Digger and his crew set about putting the loop under the track. Crag Drescher had a nightmare of a qualifying again with having an engine cut in round 2 and a flat battery in round 3 in his buggy.
We need to all look at marshaling. You need to marshal like you expect to be marshaled . No sitting there watching your friend or a top driver going around. Just watch your area and just a bit further if you can.
The Picture of the top three.

    Last but not least.
My little Buddy Mandy has put her foot in it!!....

She stepped out into the pit lane without looking and no no-one jumped off of the pit lane they was coming down the down ramp and didn't expect anyone stepping out. I and everyone at the TMSC wish that the bone is only badly bruised and not broken and a speedy recovery Mandy. You will be missed at the next round Babes.

All results can be found here and you can go and have a look around www.t-m-s-c.co.uk to find out about the other track in the series and book yourselves into future rounds. All Rd4 winners can be seen here. Many thanks to you Drivers because without you we cannot have the best series running.
See you all at DRCORC on a brand new track layout with multi surfaces of astro turf, concrete slabs and dirt. It will have 30% took away from it on the Saturday and the full track Sunday. So see you there bright and early.
